The waters and beaches of the Florida Keys are an important, though often challenging, habitat for loggerhead sea turtles. Named for their massive heads and powerful jaws, loggerheads—the most common nesting sea turtle in the U.S.—rely on the Keys for nesting and foraging. The Dry Tortugas National Park is a critical nesting hotspot, but females also lay eggs on smaller Keys beaches, particularly in areas like Islamorada. Offshore, their strong jaws help them crush the hard shells of bottom-dwel
